Scholarships

Getting an education while raising a family isn’t easy — but you don’t have to do it alone. ASPSF offers scholarships and support services to help single parents reach their goals.

Our scholarships are flexible and designed to cover real-life needs like child care, gas, car repairs, rent, and more. Whether you’re earning a degree or training for a skilled trade, we’re here to help you succeed in school, in work, and at home.

How to Apply

Applying is simple. Just follow these steps:

  • Review the eligibility criteria.
  • Gather your required documents.
  • Fill out the online application during the open dates.

  • Upload all supporting documents.
  • Submit before the deadline.

If eligible, you’ll be invited to interview with a local scholarship committee.

Application Deadlines

We award scholarships for three academic terms each year:

Summer: May 1 – June 1
(Current recipients only)

Fall: Aug. 1 – Sept. 1
(New and continuing applicants welcome)

Spring: Jan. 1 – Feb. 1
(New and continuing applicants welcome)

All applications must be submitted through the online portal by the deadline. Late applications will not be accepted.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for an ASPSF scholarship, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Residency

Education
You are enrolled or planning to enroll in a two- or four-year college or technical training program through in-person or online classes. You must have a high school diploma or GED, but have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree. You must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

Whether you’re pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or hands-on training in fields like welding, HVAC, health care, or mechanics, we’re here to help you work toward a career that offers family-supporting wages.

Income
Applicants must not have a household income of more than 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Single Parent Status
You meet all three parts of our definition of a “single parent”:

  1. Marital Status:
    • You are single (never married, divorced, widowed, or legally separated); or
    • You are married but living apart, and your divorce will be final by the time scholarships are awarded.
  2. Parenting Status:
    • You have physical custody (50% or more) of at least one dependent child.
    • A dependent child is defined as:
      1. Age 18 or younger
      2. Older than 18 and still in high school
      3. A severely disabled adult living with and dependent on you
  3. Living Arrangement:
    • You are the only adult living in the home with your child(ren); or
    • You live with a parent, relative, or roommate who is not your partner, co-parent, or significant other.

What We Offer

ASPSF scholarships are designed to meet you where you are. Awards are flexible — you choose how to use the funds to remove barriers to education.

Scholarship amounts awarded each semester:

$1,600 for 12+ credit hours
$1,200 for 9-11 credit hours
$800 for 6-8 credit hours
$400 for 3-5 credit hours

Scholarship recipients also gain access to wraparound support, including:

Mentoring and tutoring
Career and financial planning
Referrals to helpful services
Encouragement from a local support network

Required Documents

You’ll need to upload six documents each time you apply.

    Proof of Income: Most recent federal tax return (Form 1040) or other income proof.

    Transcript: New students must provide an official transcript from all schools. Continuing students may upload an unofficial transcript.

    Class Schedule for the semester you are applying for.

    Final Grades for Current Term
