BEWARE OF SCHOLARSHIP SCAMS

If you have to pay money to get money, it's probably a scam.

Every year thousands of students and parents are defrauded out of millions of dollars by scholarship scams. Scam operations often imitate legitimate government agencies, grant-giving foundations, financial lenders and scholarship matching services. They use official-sounding names containing words like "National," "Federal," "Foundation," or "Administration."

You can avoid many of these scams by generally being wary of scholarships with an application fee, scholarship-matching services who guarantee success, applications or services that require an up-front fee in exchange for information, or sales pitches disguised as financial aid "seminars".
