ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

If you are a returning scholarship applicant and have continuously received scholarships each Spring and Fall since Spring 2017, continue to follow the guidelines under which you entered our program. If you are a new applicant or did not receive a scholarship during Fall 2017 follow our current eligibility criteria.

REQUIRED SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

The following documents are required and must be submitted with your completed application form by the application deadline (above). Use the Upload Tool found in the Supporting Documents section of the application to attach the documents. Be sure to attach these documents to your application before you submit it.

New Applicants:

  1. Proof of Financial Aid. Must be obtained from your institutions financial aid office. Apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you have not done so already.
  2. Proof of Enrollment. Must be obtained from your institutions registrar’s office.
  3. Current Official College Transcript. Must be obtained from your institutions registrar's office; must be stamped or signed by the registrar.
  4. Proof of Dependents and Income (required once per year for each year you apply for this scholarship):
    • If you are required to file a tax return - submit a copy of the first two pages of your most recent federal tax return that lists your dependents and income.
    • If you are exempt from filing a tax return - submit a Proof of Income statement from the Department of Human Services.
  1. Three (3) Letters of Reference, signed and with complete Contact information. Must be obtained from people (not related to you) who are familiar with your life experiences and with your character. Must be signed and include complete contact information.
  2. Personal Essay, signed. Must explain why you chose this particular course of study and what you hope to achieve. Feel free to include any information about yourself, which might be helpful to the Selection Committee in its evaluation. Minimum 1-page.
  3. A Copy of your valid (unexpired) Photo ID. Applies to all first time applicants. International students must submit a green card, which indicates status as a legal resident, and expiration date.

Renewing Applicants:

  1. Proof of Financial Aid. Must be obtained from your institutions financial aid office. Click here to apply for the Pell Grant (FAFSA)
  2. Proof of Enrollment. Must be obtained from your institutions registrar’s office.
  3. Current Official College Transcript. Must be obtained from Registrar's Office. An official transcript must come from the registrar’s office and be stamped or signed by the registrar.
  4. Proof of Dependents and Income (required once per year for each year you apply for this scholarship):
    • If you are required to file a tax return - submit a copy of the first two pages of your most recent federal tax return that lists your dependents and income.
    • If you are exempt from filing a tax return - submit a Proof of Income statement from the Department of Human Services.

  2. Collect all required supporting documents. Scan or save them to your computer or to a portable drive in one of the following file formats: PDF, XLS (or XLSX), DOC (or DOCX), or RTF. Need help? Read Tutorial: How to Scan & Upload Documents.
  3. Apply each semester you need a scholarship. Click the application link (above). This link is only available when we're accepting applications in our area.
  4. Login to your account. Contact us (above) if you have trouble logging in. Or create a new account if you don't have one.
  5. Complete your application. You can save your work and log back into your account later if you need more time to finish your application. Be sure to complete all sections and all questions accurately. Upload all required supporting documents before you submit your application. Once your application is submitted, you won't be able to change your answers or attach any missing documents.
  6. Submit your application before the deadline. You will see a SUBMISSION SUCCESSFUL message on your screen if your application is submitted successfully.
  7. Check the status of your application and update your personal profile by logging into your account. DRAFT status on your application means it has not been submitted properly.
  8. Attend an interview (new students only) with SPSF Board Members.
