How to Apply

If you are a resident of Baxter County, Arkansas and wish to apply for a Single Parent Scholarship, read the eligibility guidelines and application instructions below to get started.

Eligibility Guidelines

  • Legal resident of the United States
  • Resident of Baxter County, Arkansas
  • Single head of household (unmarried, legally separated, divorced, or widowed)
  • Have primary custody of a child (younger than age 18)
  • Have low household income, up to 250% of Federal Poverty Guidelines
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA
  • Applicants who have previously earned a bachelor's degree are not eligible for this scholarship
  • Applied for a Pell Grant (FAFSA)

Application Instructions

Video Tutorial: How to Apply

  1. Review the Eligibility Guidelines (above) and the list of Required Supporting Documents (below).
  2. Collect all required supporting documents. Scan or save them to your computer or to a portable drive in one of the following file formats: PDF, XLS (or XLSX), DOC (or DOCX), or RTF. Read the Tutorial: How to Scan & Upload Documents if you need help.
  3. Click the application link to apply each semester that you wish to be considered for a scholarship. If an application link isn't available, it means that applications are not currently being accepted. Please check back later. NOTE: You will not be able to apply without clicking the application link first.
  4. Login to your account. Contact the SPSF (above) if you don't remember your username or password. Create a new account if you don't have one.
  5. Complete your application. You can save your work and log back into your account at a later time if you cannot complete your application in one sitting. Be sure to proofread your application and upload all required supporting documents before you are ready to submit it. You cannot make changes to your application once it has been submitted.
  6. Submit your application. You will see a SUBMISSION SUCCESSFUL message on your screen if your application is submitted successfully. Contact the SPSF (above) if you need to alert us about missing or incorrect information on your application.
  7. Check the status of your application and update your personal profile by logging into your account.
    DRAFT status means your application has not been submitted or received yet.
    SUBMITTED means your application has been received and is awaiting further review.
    UNDER REVIEW means the Selection Committee is reviewing your application.
    AWARDED or DENIED indicates the Selection Committee’s final decision.
  8. Schedule and attend an interview - Eligible applicants will receive an email invitation to schedule a personal interview. Applicants who miss this interview or fail to schedule an interview will be disqualified.
  9. Request award disbursement (if awarded a scholarship) - Scholarship notices will be mailed or emailed. Award notices will state the expected award date and give procedures to follow to receive your check.

Required Supporting Documents

The documents listed below are required and must be submitted with your completed application form by the application deadline (above).

Supporting documents may be submitted in one of the following ways:

  • Mailed or dropped off (above)
  • Attached to your application using the Upload Tool in the Supporting Documents section of the application. Be sure to attach these documents before you submit your application. Tutorial: How to scan & upload documents

New Applicants

  • Personal Statement: Write a personal statement explaining why you chose your current course of study and what you hope to achieve. Include any other information about yourself that you believe would help the Selection Committee evaluate your application.
  • Three (3) letters of reference by people who are familiar with your life experience and character. Letters must include the writer's name, address, telephone number, and email address. Letters from your relatives will not be accepted.
  • Copy of your transcripts (both of the following):
    • High school diploma and transcript (or GED certificate and test scores)
    • Official transcripts for all colleges and schools you have previously attended (one of the following formats - NOTE: Faxed transcripts will not be accepted.)
      • Hard copy (paper) must be sealed (unopened) and stamped or signed by the registrar.
      • EScrip-Safe transcripts email to singleparentscholars@gmail.com
  • Proof of Acceptance or Admission - letter or official transcript from the school(s) you will attend during the semester in which this scholarship will be used, which indicates your current enrollment or acceptance. See guidelines above for official transcripts.
  • Pell Grant (FAFSA) – Provide an award letter or email confirmation that indicates your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC)
  • Photo ID - Provide a photocopy of a valid photo ID. Expired IDs will not be accepted.
  • Federal Tax Return - Provide a copy of the most recently filed tax return (i.e. Form 1040-EZ etc.)
  • Release Form - Download and complete a release form (above). Click 'X' in the corner of login/registration box to close it & view the document if prompted.

Returning Applicants (Applicants who received this scholarship last semester)

  • Status Update Form - Download and complete a status update form (above) to notify us of any changes in your contact information, marital status, dependents status, physical address, financial status, degree program, etc. Click 'X' to close the new account registration box if prompted.
  • College Transcript - Official college transcript showing your academic standing and progress (one of the following formats - NOTE: Faxed transcripts will not be accepted.)
    • Hard copy (paper) must be sealed (unopened) and stamped or signed by the registrar.
    • EScrip-Safe transcripts email to singleparentscholars@gmail.com

NOTE FOR ALL APPLICANTS: You may also be required to provide a copy of your current class schedule for the semester to be covered by the scholarship.
