WHO WE ARE

Single Parent Scholarships (SPSF) are given to low-income single parents who are pursuing post-secondary education in preparation for skilled employment. We organize affiliated scholarship funds that serve every county of Arkansas. To apply for a scholarship or to get involved, contact the affiliate SPSF serving the county you live in.

MAY VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Wayne Croom, SPSF of Crittenden County

Wayne Croom: Wayne Croom exemplifies the term “volunteer”. Beyond his longtime service with the SPSF of Crittenden County, which includes serving as Chair from 2004-2013, he is a US Veteran, and Assistant District Governor of Rotary. He has also served as President for the West Memphis Chamber of Commerce and the Mid-South Business & Industry Council. Recognized for his leadership and community compassion, he is a recipient of the Crossroads Coalition Leadership Award and twice was named Citizen of the Year. Born in Earl, Arkansas, into a share cropper family, Wayne grew up as one of twelve children. Later in life, he became a single parent. These experiences led to his involvement with the Single Parent Scholarship Fund. He understands the difficulties single parents face, and understands the need for higher education as a means to provide economic stability to families in poverty.

FUNDRAISING NEWS

ASPSF Benevon Training

This spring, 17 SPSF volunteers and staff members from around the state attended an introductory presentation on the Benevon fundraising model in Little Rock. Benevon Founder and CEO, Terry Axelrod, explained the model and shared how groups raise, on average, $200,000 after their first Benevon event. Look for more discussion on how large and small SPSF affiliates might use this model to engage their communities and increase local fundraising.
