ADHE/SINGLE PARENT SCHOLARSHIP

2009-2010 Deadline to Apply: September 18, 2009

About the Program
Recognizing our common interests in higher education, the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE) and the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) have joined efforts for the 2009-2010 academic year to increase the availability of much needed scholarship support to deserving single parents in the state. The ADHE has awarded $175,000 to be distributed within the network of ASPSF affiliates for the purpose of increasing the number of single parents who pursue higher education and are awarded Single Parent Scholarships.

Application Requirements and Guidelines
ASPSF will disburse $175,000 to affiliates which agree to award scholarships identified as ADHE/Single Parent Scholarships and to report back certain information about the students who are awarded these scholarships. Affiliates may set their own award levels. However, ASPSF strongly recommends that affiliates award full-time students (12 or more credit hours) at a level of $500 or more per scholarship.

To apply for a portion of the ADHE/SPSF Scholarship Funding Opportunity, current affiliates of the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund must complete and submit an Affiliate Participation Agreement prior to September 18, 2009. Once approved, the affiliate organization will receive a sub-grant according to a funding formula set by ASPSF (see Funding Chart). This formula takes into consideration the eligible single-parent population versus the distribution of Single Parent Scholarship awards in each county. All unexpended funds must be returned to ASPSF for redistribution before the end of the contract term.

Participating affiliates must fully disburse their ADHE funds prior to June 30, 2010. They must also report to ASPSF certain personal information about students who receive ADHE/SPSF awards using a Scholarship Awardee Information Report form. (NOTE: Users of Windows Vista/7 may be asked to "login" to open this document. Click the Cancel button to ignore this screen and open the document.) Affiliates should request a prior form of written permission from each student to release this sensitive information to ASPSF and the ADHE. Click here to download a sample Permission to Release Confidential Information form and adapt it to meet the needs of your SPSF.
